PRESS RELEASE

Established by our Ministry and now become an appointment awaited by all the “Free Sundays at the Museum” see the Regional Museum of Basilicata Park an initiative to make the Museum increasingly welcoming for everyone and especially for children, who must be able to find dedicated activities, times and spaces specially designed.

This year, as part of the new and more detailed program of activities in museums, there will be three educational workshops: in Matera, in the Palazzo Lanfranchi Museum [Sala Pascoli] “Combiniamo e. … disjoint to Arte” with Felipe Risco; in Metaponto in the Archaeological National Archaeological Museum “Durst. Inside the Museum with open windows!”; in Melfi in the National Archaeological Museum of the Melfese Massimo Pallottino “Maschere al Castello”. While in the other Polo Museums [Domenico Ridola of Matera, Policoro, Venosa, Melfi, Grumento Nova, Muro Lucano] there will be traditional guided lives.

The idea that once again guides this project is to bring children and their families closer to the ‘common houses of culture’ museums. Everyone must feel at home in our museums. This is why we decided to carry out these special activities during free Sundays. While the children will have fun with art, archeology and carnival masks even their families will be able to spend pleasant time in the Lucanian museums.

Through the game, children can discover the richness and beauty of the cultural heritage displayed in the museums of our territory. The children will transmit to us the greatest passion for knowledge, imagination and creativity.

Sunday, February 4, 2018 children from 5 to 10 years can participate – we recommend booking – to original laboratories and exciting recreational routes dedicated to them.

> In the Sala Pascoli of the Palazzo Lanfranchi Museum, in Matera, the master Felipe Risco, within the exhibition of the exhibition “The search for wonders”, will propose the educational workshop “Combiniamo and … scombiniamo ad Arte” for the little ones who will at work with scissors, glue, colors, cardboard … and you will discover budding artists! [for info and reservations tel. 0835 256211 / e-mail: pm-bas@beniculturali.it].

> In the Metaponto Museum at 10:30 am and at 4:30 pm, the “Archeo Dust” workshop will be held, which provides an ideal itinerary that will allow children and adults to immerse themselves in the history of Magna Graecia, which is kept inside the museum and discover the passion that animates him.

The visit to the museum, during the safety opening of some cases for ordinary cleaning by restorers, will offer the opportunity to get in touch with the finds from a close, new and different perspective. Next to the historical archaeological account of the colony of Metaponto, by professional archaeologists, restoration workshops are planned for small visitors. [To guarantee a better management of the event it is preferable to confirm the telephone number +39 0835 745327].

> In the Museum of Melfi, on the occasion of the Carnival, “Masks at the Castle”: a day in mask with the little ones in which the possibility will be given, next to the guided tour, to play group games and workshops. The guided tour will be interspersed with stories of fairy tales and games to involve children: puzzles depicting the traditional masks of the Carnival [Arlecchino, Pulcinella and Colombina], quiz “guess the drawing” and at the end, the workshop Color your mask, in which children will be able to express their imagination by decorating masks made especially for them. The publicity of the event and the accessions [more than 30 children have already been booked] take place through the Museum’s Facebook page.

We started with three museums and, in the next few months, the project will be extended to other museums in our network. We want to strengthen the educational services to offer something concrete, accessible and dedicated to children within our facilities and build together the path to Matera – Basilicata 2019. Together we can create a permanent educational network, with the involvement increasingly broad and participated of the schools.

Admission to museums for the whole day on Sunday and participation in the workshops and guided tours are free.

You’re all invited!
