ROCCO DE ROSA
Biography / Discography

The Luciano pianist and composer Rocco De Rosa, lives and works in Rome since ’95. His musical activity is divided between the work of composer in different artistic fields, in particular cinema (Moretti, Olmi, Reali, Miniero, Genovese, La Nubile, Astuti,
Ferrente, Consiglio, Avati) documentaries, television, theater and dance. As a pianist he directs the multi-ethnic group “Hata” for many years, a project born after the publication in 1996 of the so-called “Transmigrazioni” edited by De Rosa himself.
Daniele Sepe and Paolo Fresu. “Hata” is also the title of the CD published in ’98, from which Putumayo World Music of New York chose the song “Malonghi”, (written by Rocco De Rosa and sung by Martin Kongo) to include it in the compilation “One
World, Many Cultures “featuring artists such as Alan Stivell, Youssou N’Dour, Cheb Mami and Ziggy Marley.

Other appearances in international compilations are in the so-called “Mediterraneo” (2007) of the Portuguese Difference Music e
“Italia” (2009) always by Putumayo.

“Rotte Distratte” is the record of the end of 2002 which represented a return to the sounds and musicality most closely related to the Mediterranean culture through
a very special cross between minimalism, jazz and popular music. With “Trammari” (2006) Rocco De Rosa continues in his musical journey that already in “Rotte Distratte” had undergone a profound turn towards predominantly acoustic sounds and the “return” to rhythms and melodies that drew on a sort of “collective sound memory” “, Archaic and at the same time current, inextricably linked to the south of Italy, to its culture and its traditions. Among the guests present on the record are Ralph Towner, Maria Pia De Vito, Daniele Sepe, Marco
Siniscalco, Michele Rabbia. The CD closes with “Il giardino di Giovanni”, a song written by Rocco De Rosa with Sergio Endrigo in 1989, an affectionate tribute to the great singer-songwriter.

Very intense was the piano sounding activity of silent film classics, from Chaplin to Shimitzu, in numerous festivals (Creuza de Ma, Naples Jazz festival) and cultural spaces such as the Institute of Japanese Culture and the Goethe Institut of Rome.

In parallel with his solo activity, in recent years the collaboration with the singer / performer Canio Loguercio (also Lucanian but Neapolitan by adoption) has been very intense with which he has signed the book / cd “Amaro Ammore” (2013).
