After the success of the past events Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May 2018 will be held the Festival of Museums, a major national event organized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. The event, now in its third edition, involves the entire National Museum network, is linked to the ICOM International Museum Day and this year is enriched by the coincidence with the European Year of Heritage.
The Pole Museum of Basilicata participates in the event with all its 12 Museums and Cultural Places present on the regional territory with a rich and diversified program of activities: from thematic conferences, to exhibitions to concerts, from theater to workshop activities, to traditional visits guided to particular aspects of our collections.
The theme of this edition is: Hyperconnected museums: new approaches, new audiences. The proposal is to reflect on the role of museums as collectors and diffusers of new languages and new opportunities for mutual knowledge and interaction with the reference community and visitors. Cultural inhabitants who meet temporary citizens in the large open and accessible square of our museums, which punctuate seamlessly the entire regional territory from Matera to Potenza, from Grumento to Tricarico, from Melfi and Venosa to Policoro and Metaponto without neglecting, from this edition, the new cultural places recently annexed to the Museum Pole of Basilicata: Castello di Lagopesole, Palazzo De Lieto in Maratea [future location of the Pinacoteca Angelo Brando] and soon the Archaeological Parks of the Ionian Coast and Grumento.
This year’s Festival of Museums is characterized by two very important coincidences: first of all, free entry to all the Basilicata State Museums for the whole day of 19 [with an extension of the opening hours until 11.00 pm].
At the request of the Director of the Museum Pole, the Ministry has authorized that on the 19th of every month, up to “minus 1” from the inauguration of the European Capital of Culture, free admission to all Museums and Places of Culture lucani: a concrete and significant contribution to the active participation of citizens in the life of museums and an opportunity for cultural growth recognized to all, not only to residents of our region.
The other novelty is having shared, with the support of the Matera-Basilicata Foundation 2019, the May festival at the Infancy of the Kismet Theater of Bari. A review born 21 years ago that arrives for the first time in Matera and that will involve the two most important Museums of the City of Stones: Palazzo Lanfranchi and Ridola.
“The children – said the Director of the Polo Marta Ragozzino – must become the real protagonists of the life of our museums. Without them the places of culture have no future. Sharing the project of May to Childhood allows us to open our museums better and better, making them alive through the eyes, the laughter and the dreams of the little ones ».
The preparation work done in recent weeks has seen the involvement of many public and private subjects and of many operators of the Museum and Museums network, each with their own sensitivity and professionalism.
A program that required financial investments and was designed to create broad involvement and active participation.
