Demeter and Kore, the cycles of the earth and life. A story on the road between Metaponto and Policoro.
As part of the “PRIMAVERA DEI MUSEI” exhibition, promoted by the Museum Pole of Basilicata for the month of April, this event aims to link the two great museums of the Ionian coast to offer visitors a unique experience, immersed in history and archeology : to restore the complexity and richness of the Magna Grecia lucana.
The story will focus on the importance of the sphere of the Sacred in the ancient world, and in particular on the demetriac cults associated with the cycles of the seasons that regulate the phases of agriculture and life.
The traveling conference will begin at the National Archaeological Museum of Metaponto, where the manifestations of the Sacred will be described thanks to the exhibits displayed in the display cases. Subsequently, the visitors will move to the National Archaeological Museum of Siritide di Policoro thanks to a free bus provided by the Museum Pole.
Here, you will immerse yourself in the archaeological evidence found in the two sanctuaries dedicated to the goddess Demeter: the urban sanctuary of Herakleia and the rural extra-urban sanctuary of Santa Maria D’Anglona.
The day will consist of two rounds of visits, divided between morning and afternoon.
